William Carl Schomburg Jr., 77 of Hot Springs Village, passed away on Friday, September 15, 2017. He was born August 14, 1940 in Ft. Wayne, Indiana to William Carl Schomburg Sr. and Ruth Cains Schomburg.
Bill is survived by his wife Mary Schomburg and daughter Susan Schomburg, two sisters; Anna Marie Leuenberger and Christine Schomburg, two nephews; William Westrick and Anthony Leuenberger.
He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers; Robert Schomburg and Thomas Schomburg.
He served in the military as an army ranger during the Vietnam War, became Director of Public Safety at Northeastern Illinois University, and worked in sales at CartonCraft, Inc. in Barrington, Illinois, eventually becoming president of the company. He was a natural leader, loved boating and golfing, and could fix anything. Because of his large size and deep voice, many people thought he was gruff and tough. But beneath that exterior, he was the most gentle and loving man. He was a loyal and generous friend and brother, and he was totally devoted to his wife and daughter. He will be deeply missed by many people. Services will be announced at a later date.
The family requests memorials be made to a Veterans Association of your choice.
I am so sorry to hear of Bills passing. I played numerous rounds of golf with Bill during my "early days" in HSV. He always made me feel welcome in
his foursome and we had numerous good conversations and laughs. My condolences to Bills family. He will be sorely missed.
