Carol Linn Pixton

Carol Linn Pixton, 84, of Hot Springs, AR passed away on March 3, 2024 surrounded by

family. She was born May 10th, 1939 in Washington D.C., the daughter of Cecil Edison

Linn and Marie Dorothy Broz.

Carol was preceded in death by her father, Cecil Edison Linn, and her mother, Marie

Dorothy Broz, and her sisters Dorothy Murphy, Alma Bradley And Helen Linn.

Carol is survived by her husband of 64 years William H Pixton of Hot Springs, AR.

Also surviving are her children John Pixton and his wife Catherine of Katy, TX, and

Elizabeth Wilkes of Hot Springs Village, AR. She leaves three grandchildren John

Patrick Pixton and Michael Pixton of Katy, Tx and Haley Wilkes of Hot Springs Village,

AR.

Carol was an excellent student and earned an Associate of Arts Degree at George

Washington University in 1959 on a scholarship. She worked at the Government

Printing Office and after 3 years married William Hoover Pixton (Bill) on August 29, 1959

and moved to Pensacola where Bill entered the Naval Flight Program.

On August 24th, 1960 Bill’s aircraft caught fire and crashed, and Carol had to manage

affairs alone until Bill’s release from the hospital in November. The couple moved to

Newport Rhode Island for two months while Bill attended the U.S. Naval School of

Justice. They moved again in February 1961 to Washington D.C. where Bill continued

naval duty and Carol worked again at the Government Printing Office.

The couple moved again in 1964 after Bill completed his M.A. in English Literature to

University of North Carolina, where Carol worked as head secretary to the UNC Athletic

Director and Bill worked on a PhD in English Literature. In 1968 the couple moved to

Greenville after Bill secured a teaching position at East Carolina University, and John

was born soon afterward. In 1971 the couple moved to Troy, Alabama and Bill began

teaching at Troy University. In 1975, Elizabeth was born. They moved again to

Stillwater, OK in 1977 so Bill could begin teaching at Oklahoma State University.

The couple moved to Hot Springs Village Arkansas in 1997 where they enjoyed retired

life. Carol enjoyed tennis, bridge, and shopping in Little Rock.

Carol began suffering the effects of dementia in 2018, and Bill cared for her at home

while her dementia progressed until April 20, 2022 when she had a fall while not fully in

control of her senses. She spent 3 months at Brookfield Assisted Living and Memory

Care, and then moved to the Village Springs Health and Rehabilitation Center, both in

Hot Springs. She seemed to enjoy Bill’s visits nearly every day. In November Bill

moved in with her and stayed until she passed.

Carol was a very smart and perceptive woman. She played tennis, achieved a masters

level in bridge and amassed a large number of bowling trophies. She loved card and

board games. She especially loved being outside with nature, tending to her many

gardens and seeing her dogs and cats running free nearby. She volunteered for a time

at the Village Bible Church stuffing toy bears for children at the hospital.

A visitation will be held on Friday March 8th from 1pm to 2pm at CedarVale Funeral

Home, 200 Minorca Rd, Hot Springs Village, AR 71909. A graveside service will follow at 2pm at the adjacent gravesite. Arrangement made under the direction of CedarVale Funeral Home inside Hot Springs Village, Arkansas. Guests may register at cedarvalefuneralhome.com
