Charles “Charlie” Lloyd Buchanan, Jr. of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas passed away peacefully in his home on Tuesday morning, July 23rd, 2019. He was 81 years old. Charles was born on June 25, 1938 in Canyon, Texas to Leona Buchanan and Charles Buchanan, Sr. He was the first born of three children. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Bruce Buchanan. He is survived by his sister, Gloria Thomas. He leaves to cherish his memory: wife, Mary Buchanan, with whom he just celebrated 62 years of marriage in January; daughter, Valerie Cadenhead of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas with her husband, Jimmy Cadenhead; son, Steven Buchanan of Roy, Utah with his wife, Stephanie Buchanan; son, Danny Buchanan of Lawrenceville, Georgia with his wife, Kim Buchanan; his grandchildren, Trae, Tyson, Tori, Taysha, Maeve, Nathaniel and Amanda; his great grandchildren, Ian, Nevaeh, Milo, Brayden, Linus, Connor, Felix, Tyler and another great-grandson to be born next month. Charles and Mary married on January 25, 1957 during his first year in college at West Texas State College, he then transferred to Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas where Charles got his BS in Engineering in 1962. On graduating he began work as a civil engineer for Chicago Bridge and Iron. He worked for CBI for 38 years before retiring in 2000. With CBI, Charles moved all over the USA as well as to Argentina, Brazil and the Netherlands. He is most proud of his work in Titusville, Florida, where he worked on the launch pad construction at Cape Canaveral in preparation for the first launch to the moon. On retiring, Charles and Mary moved to Hot Springs Village. They are members of Barcelona Road Baptist Church where Charles served as deacon for several years. He also was a member and speaker for Gideon International and a building volunteer for Habitat for Humanity. He helped with construction of the Samaritan Ministries building in Hot Springs, Arkansas and volunteered there for many years. Charles enjoyed golf, fishing, boating and reading. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. The family thanks both Dierksen Hospice and Right at Home caregivers for their dedication to his care. His funeral service is Saturday, July 27th at 2 p.m. at Barcelona Road Baptist Church. Visitation at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Samaritan Ministries, Gospel Rescue Mission for Men. Their address is 131 Sanford Street, Hot Springs, Arkansas 71901.
