Cleo Wynnette Dailey was born February 24, 1917, on a farm three miles east of
Casey ,Iowa, and passed away on November 9, 2019 at 102 years of age in Hot Springs Village, AR.Her parents were Glenn Adelbert Walters and Cleo Estella (Raper) Walters, both lifelong residents of the Casey community.Wynnette attended school in Casey and graduated from high school as valedictorian of her class. She further attended Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa, and the University of Iowa, Iowa City, Iowa, where she earned the B.A. degree in English and Education. Upon graduation, she taught school in Brighton and Sac City, Iowa.On April 5th, 1942, she was united in marriage to Robert Charles Dailey of Hardy, Nebraska. They had two children, Michael Dailey of Vancouver, WA. and Holly Hardin of Sun City West, AZ. The family lived in Hardy, Casey and Collins, Iowa. In 1983 Robert and Wynnette moved to Hot Springs Village, AR. She taught English and French in the towns where the family lived. She spent three summers in France studying in Lyons, Rennes, and Angers. Upon retirement in 1975, she undertook studies at Iowa State College, Ames, Iowa, culminating in the Master’s degree in English in 1979. As a profession and as recreation, Wynnette enjoyed the study of language and literature throughout her life. She published many articles for a literary magazine, studied with Robert Frost, wrote for the Village United Methodist Becomer’s Sunday School monthly newsletter and, as a member of the Village Writers Club, won a variety of awards both in the club and in the state.She enjoyed her friends at the Turtles water fitness class, Trideltas, and her daily walks.Wynnette was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church, having joined Christian fellowship as a youth in Casey.She leaves her children: Michael Dailey and Holly Hardin; one grandchild, Scott Kirk; her daughter-in-law Patricia Dailey; and son-in-law John R. Hardin. Wynnette was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Charles Dailey and grandson, Chad Michael Kirk.Our thanks go out to the staff at Hearts and Homes, Inc.: Kathy, Brandi, Dean, Patti, Danny and the many others that loved and cared for our mother.
