Dayton Ray Land

Dayton R. Land, 74, of Hot Springs Village, passed away peacefully on ¬¬¬August 7, 2019, after a lengthy illness. He was born January 8, 1945, in Llano, Texas, to Otto and Tillie Lindemann Land, who preceded him in death, along with a brother, Robert James Land, and sister Lucille Land. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Bettie Emery Land, and daughter Kimberly Land; brothers William Land, Kenneth Land (Jacqueline) and Jerry Land; sisters-in-law/brothers-in-law Donna and Mike Jones, Ginny and Buddy Hale; nieces Angela Jan Jones, Teresa Lynn Cowie (George), Nina Kay Winfrey (Dale); nephews Mike DeMoen, Kristoffer Land (Jamie), Anthony Jones; great niece (Elizabeth Ledbetter); great nephews Matthew Faulkner, James Small, Evan Cowie, Wesley Winfrey, Brandon Winfrey; great-great nephews Liam Stockwell and Noah Ledbetter; and many cousins. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, stationed in Korea, from 1963-1966.He retired from United Parcel Service in May 1995. Starting out as a package car driver, he moved to Special Assignments and later managed centers in Dallas, Wichita Falls and Fort Worth, Texas. In 1993 he was awarded the Vince Lombardi Southwest Region “Best Package Division — HEB” (Hurst/Euless/Bedord). He was a member of Village United Methodist Church; past member of HSV Breakfast Lions. He owned racehorse King Sweep (several wins, including first place at Arlington Park, Ill.) and was part owner of Brothers Nicholas. He enjoyed golfing, horse racing, hunting and sports.The Land family extends its sincere thanks to the staff at Good Samaritan Healthcare – HSV and Kindred Hospice for their loving care and support.A memorial service will be held at Village United Methodist Church in Hot Springs Village on Thursday, August 15, at 10:00. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Village United Methodist Church, Good Samaritan — HSV or Kindred Hospice.
