Ernie J. Winters

Ernie “Rusty” Winters, 93, of Hot Springs Village passed away, peacefully, on February 5, 2022 at the Veterans Home in North Little Rock, Arkansas. He was born on August 8, 1928 in Hardin County, Illinois to the late Sol and Georgia (Davis) Winters. Rusty was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years, Marie (Volkert) Winters. Rusty served in the Air Force during the Korean conflict and was a life-long salesman for the Sears and Roebuck Company. Upon retirement, he and Marie retired to a quiet life in Hot Springs Village. Rusty enjoyed golfing with his brother-in-law and other friends in the Village. He always kept current on his sports, especially his beloved Chicago Cubs.

Rusty had a warm smile and a great love for others. He never met a stranger and could easily strike up a conversation with anyone he met. He loved all animals, especially dogs. His last Dachshund, Gus II, was his obvious favorite. Rusty was also an avid reader and kept an extensive diary of all the books he had read.

He is survived by his sisters-in-law Alma Jolliff of Hot Springs Village, Edith Winters of Texas, and Mildred Hudson (Craig) of Missouri along with many nieces and nephews and their children in several states.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Hot Springs Village on Friday, February 11, 2022 at 9:00 a.m. with internment at Cedar Vale. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations may be made to the Hot Springs Village Animal Welfare League, www.hsvawl.org, or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
