James R. Fickle

James Richard Fickle 89, a resident of Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Hot Springs Village, Arkansas formerly of Virginia Beach Virginia passed away April 23, 2023 in Hot Springs Village Arkansas. He was born September 21, 1933 in New Castle Pennsylvania to Helen Deer, now deceased.

Jim graduated from New Castle High School in 1952, joined the Navy in 1953 he served as a Submariner in Key West Florida for 4 years. He graduated from the College of William and Mary in 1958. He retired from a Civil Service career at NOB, in Norfolk VA after 30 years. He and his wife loved to dance, especially square dancing, ballroom dancing and line dancing. They belonged to several dance clubs in Hampton Roads. He was a member of the Elks Lodge for many years. He loved animals and always had a dog and helped others take care of theirs. He was a member of Haygood Methodist Church of Virginia Beach.

Jim was preceded in death by his loving wife and soul mate Shirley Fickle of 66 years.

Jim is survived by his loving daughter Rose Johnson (Jeff) of Hot Springs Village Arkansas. and son Donald L Fickle (Lisa), his sister Barbara Welch (Mike) two Grandchildren Andrew J. Keen (Paige) and Nicholas Fickle (Mariana)and three great grandchildren Maria, Eleanor and Indiana

A Celebration of James and Shirley Fickle's life will be held at a later date. Memorial Contribution can be made to the Walk to End Alzheimer’s.
