Jonancy Sundberg

JoNancy Linn Sundberg, 81, stepped into the presence of her Savoir on August 14, 2020. She had been a resident of Hot Springs Village since 1991.
Born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio and its suburbs, she and her late husband, Robert G Sundberg, lived in the Virginia suburbs of Washington DC for more than 28 years.
A graduate of Wheaton College (Illinois), she taught first grade in Ohio and Virginia, but also had a career of working in doctors’ offices, sales positions, as the administrative assistant to a pastor, and as owner and manager of a Christian book business.
She actively served in the Village Bible Church and was on several community advisory boards –Arkansas Hospice, Good Samaritan Society HSV, and that of a bank. She had also been on the Village Community Foundation Board and the Mercy Clinic Advisory Board.
JoNancy was known as one of the Village’s favorite storytellers, fulfilling many speaking engagements each year. When physically able, she was also active in Village Players. JoNancy so enjoyed being creative, using her creativity to benefit church and community groups.
After her husband’s death in an automobile accident two years after they moved to HSV, she had what she called “a whole’nother life.” Four compilations she researched were published- “Suddenly a Widow” (a gift booklet for widows), “Hope in Times of Grief”, and “Encouragement for Pastors.” Later, that book, “A Glimpse of Heaven” was released. Oh, how she anticipated the joy of being reunited with family and friends - and singing praise to her God there!
Her personal writing most often took the form of rhyme, thought she did compose some ‘more serious stuff’ (her description) as well. Out of her own grief experience, JoNancy ministered to many others who were grieving, both personally and through bringing the GriefShare seminars to HSV.
She called challenging circumstances “interesting” –which was usually a gross understatement. Almost any occasion was cause to plan a party. For years, she invited neighbors who were not going to be with family for Christmas to come to her home that day. She somehow managed to find something positive or fun in just everything that occurred.
She cared deeply for others, affirmed, encouraged, and prayed for them often, and loved God and His Word supremely. Her heart attitude was expressed well in Psalm 126:3, “The LORD has done great things for us; we are glad.”
Her household usually included felines, thus she was known as “catmom.” Bob and JoNancy had no children of their own. However, she ‘adopted’ a large number of her friends’ children and grandchildren (with their permission, of course.) She often said, “That way, you can pick the cream of the crop.” And she did. Courtney and Emily; Jordan, James, and Jon Michael; Robbie; William David, Sarah, and Laura; Theodore, Anastasia, Eden, Caleb, Joshua, Noah, and Lily; Libby, Marie, and Bonnie; Zachary and Noah; keenan, Kaden and John Kayan; and Joshua.
Surviving JoNancy are one brother and two sisters-in-laws, Ardith Linn of Brevard, NC and Karl Robert Linn (and Eva) of Lebanon, OH and their children and grandchildren as well as a multitude of dear friends.
A private family graveside service will be held at CedarVale Cemetery on Saturday, August 22, 2020 at 10:00 AM.
