DALE JONES
Vernon “Dale” Jones, 72, of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, passed away in the arms of his devoted wife,
Jill, on July 26, 2020. He was in the home they built together with so much love.
Dale was born October 28, 1947 in Memphis, Tennessee, the first son of Vernon Lee and Deloris Mae
Jones. Dale graduated from Overton High School in Memphis. He studied to be a steamfitter, then
became a mechanical contractor which led him to start his own company, Mid America Air
Conditioning in 1980. His company continues to service commercial HVAC units across the south and
Dale was involved in the daily business for forty years. As he would say, “I’m just an air-conditioning
man”.
Dale built his first home in Lakeland, Tennessee and was proud to be one of the founders to sign the
petition to incorporate the city in 1977. He helped start the Garner Lake Association and Lakeland
Lions Club. Dale was involved in the growth of the young city, where he served as a commissioner and
worked with others in the Civic Club to organize the Lakeland Funfest & Bar-B-Q for many years.
Dale and Jill met in 2006 in the lobby of the Arlington Hotel in Hot Springs and that day changed their
lives forever. Sunsets on the water, dancing, remodeling houses, stargazing, playing golf together… the
list goes on. The decision to move from Lakeland to beautiful Hot Springs Village in 2014 was a good
one. Their love story was cut short after Dale fought a fierce battle against lung cancer. Dale would tell
everyone, “Don’t ever smoke”.
Dale loved life, road trips, rum and cokes in a tall glass, good food with good wine and the camaraderie
of friends on and off the golf course. He will be remembered for his hospitality, generosity and
boisterous laughter, his sparkling blue eyes and of course, those big dimples. Dale never met a
stranger and he touched so many hearts.
Dale is survived by his wife, Jill of Hot Springs Village; children, Leslie Elaine Jones and Matthew Dale
Jones both of Memphis, Tennessee; his mother, Deloris of Wimberley, Texas; sister and brother-in-law,
Sheila and Timothy Dunn of Lilburn, Georgia; brothers and sisters-in-law, Roger and Joyce Jones of
Wimberley, Texas, Johnny and Angie Jones of Bolivar, Tennessee and many cherished cousins, nieces
and nephews.
Dale was preceded in death by his father; his son, Richard Allen Jones and Andie Miller, mother of
Richard and Matthew.
Many thanks to the caring staff of Genesis Cancer Center, Arkansas Hospice and CedarVale Funeral
Home. A celebration of life will be held in the future when family and friends can gather to raise a
glass. In the meantime, please consider a memorial donation in Dale’s name.
