Carol Ann Cruz, age 82, of Hot Springs, Arkansas, passed away on August 29, 2023. She was born on January 18, 1941, in Waukegan, Illinois, to the late John A. Chesney and Hazel Chesney nee Reuschel. Carol was a loving Wife, Mother, Sister, and Aunt. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Carol attended Holy Family in North Chicago, IL, for her primary education and graduated from North Chicago High School in 1958. After moving to Hot Springs Village in 1996, she became an active member of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church. Carol dedicated her time as the head sacristan, ensuring the church was well-maintained and beautifully decorated from 2003 to 2013. Her devotion to her faith extended beyond her local community. She had the privilege of traveling to Rome, where she marveled at the architecture and visited the Vatican.
In her free time, Carol enjoyed knitting and made countless mittens for her children and grandchildren. She was also a member of the Rosary Makers at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, creating thousands of rosaries to donate worldwide.
Surviving Carol are her beloved husband of 63 years, Lazaro (Larry) Cruz and her children Richard (Nita) Cruz, Mary Gold, Daniel Cruz, Theresa (John) Henson, and Joseph (Colleen) Cruz. She also leaves behind her brother, William (Sharon) Chesney; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren with 2 more on the way; and many nieces and nephews.
Carol was preceded in death by her son, William Cruz; brother, John R Chesney; and sister, Joan Richards.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 1, 2023 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, located at 259 Balearic Rd, Hot Springs Village, AR 71909. A visitation will begin at 10am, the rosary will be recited at 10:30 AM, followed by the service at 11:00 AM. The internment at the Cedar Vale Cemetery will be private with family.
Carol Ann Cruz will be remembered for her unwavering devotion to her family, faith, and community. Her warm smile, kind heart, and generous spirit will forever hold a special place in our hearts.
May she rest in peace.
