John Hollansworth

John A. Hollansworth Sr, 92, of Hot Springs Village, was received into the arms of Jesus on July 17, 2023 at home with his family by his side.

John was born on May 8, 1931 to Arthur and Dorsie Hollansworth in Kansas City, Missouri. After graduating from high school, John served in the U.S. Army.

In 1955 John met his wife Jane in Oklahoma City, OK where they were married shortly thereafter and went on to have two sons together; John Jr. and Jeff -- who both live in the Village.

Later, John received his undergraduate degree from Oklahoma City University, followed by a Master’s degree at Loyola college.

John retired from Western Union after 33 years in the Government Systems Division, as Senior Vice President.

John was an active member for 60 years, of the Gideons, an international organization that distributes Bibles.

After moving to Hot Springs Village 35 years ago, John volunteered his time and efforts as a board member for the following organizations:

Mid-American Museum, Boys and Girls Club of HSV, Teen Challenge, Good Sam Advisory Board, Village Bible Church, Friends of the Village, McPherson College, Hagerty Antique Car Insurance.

During his wonderful years in Hot Springs Village, John owned and managed Gasoline Alley, a car collection and restoration garage behind Village Storage. John’s passion for cars was evident throughout his life as he raced Midgets and IndyCars in the mid-60s with A.J. Foyt, Al Unser, Parnelli Jones, and others. John further competed in the Great American Race across the U.S. 15 years in a row and was the owner and driver of a 1917 Peerless, known as the “Green Dragon “

Throughout John’s life, he worked and served his family, community and country with great enthusiasm and passion. He was a natural negotiator and peacemaker. On a daily basis, John welcomed everyone into his auto shop, sharing his passion for American wheels, and giving back generously to countless individuals of every age. John’s faith in Jesus Christ was evidenced daily as he generously partnered with non profit organizations like Fellowship of Christian Athletes locally, to help further Christian development in the schools and colleges.

John has left an amazing legacy. His life serves to inspire us to give sacrificially to those in our own families and communities as he did.

John is survived by his wife Jane, two sons, Jeff and wife Darla, John and wife Stephanie, 6 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren (with one on the way) and multiple nieces and nephews.

Jane and the family would like to invite you to attend a Celebration of Life for John on Monday, July 31st at 3:00pm at Village Bible Church.
