Mary Elizabeth Reedy

Listen to Obituary

Mary Elizabeth Reedy went home to be with the Lord on May 15, 2026. Mary lived her life in faith, and her heart found a spiritual home at Balboa Baptist Church in Hot Springs Village. Those who loved her take comfort in knowing she stepped into the presence of Jesus with joy, reunited at last with her husband, her family, and the many dear friends who were waiting for her in Heaven.

One of the scriptures she treasured and kept close was Ephesians 3:17: “Then Christ will make His home in your hearts as you trust in Him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong.” That verse reflects the way she lived — rooted in love, steady in faith, and strengthened by grace.

Mary is survived by her daughter, Kay Atchley; her son‑in‑law, Billy Atchley; and her two grandsons, Logan and Connor Atchley, who brought her great joy. She is also survived by her sister‑in‑law, Diane Howe whom she loved dearly, and several nieces and nephews.

Born in 1943 in Hampton, Arkansas, to Rachel Marcel Abbott Howe and Carson Howe Sr., Mary grew up on her family’s chicken farm, where she gathered many cherished memories and experiences that stayed with her throughout her life. She was preceded in death by her sister, Beverly Lang, and her brothers, James Howe and Carson Howe Jr., all of whom she loved deeply.

Mary moved to Conway, Arkansas, to attend what is now the University of Central Arkansas — a decision that changed her life in more ways than one. There, she met the love of her life, John Reedy(†), and the two married in 1964. After graduating, Mary began a long and dedicated career with the Arkansas Department of Human Services, where she served for more than 30 years, retiring from there not once but twice.

She was a devoted mother, mother‑in‑law, and grandmother — endlessly generous with her time, her patience, and her gentle, loving spirit.

Mary filled her days with creativity and curiosity. She loved tending to her flowers, stitching beautiful embroidery, working with glass, baking treats (her cheesecake was the best), traveling across the United States, and playing cards with friends. Whatever she did, she poured her heart into it.

Most of all, Mary loved her family — and she loved them fiercely. Her presence was steady, her kindness constant, and her love unmistakable. She leaves behind a legacy of faith, warmth, and quiet strength that will continue to shape the lives of those who knew her.

Mary’s memorial service will be June 1, 2026; 10:00am visitation, 11:00am service; at Balboa Baptist Church, 415 Ponce de Leon Drive, Hot Springs Village, AR 71909.
