Shirley Marie Wallace, 88, of Hot Springs Village (previously from Grand Prairie, TX) passed away peacefully on August 11, 2019 at her home.
She was born in 1931 in Thawville, IL to Willard and Ruth Stinebring Danforth. Shirley graduated from Onarga High School in 1949. She attended Illinois State University and received her RN from the Mennonite Hospital School for Nurses in 1952. She married the love of her life Loyd A. Wallace in 1952 and thus began her life as an Air Force wife.
She started her nursing career working in United States Air Force hospitals. She spent the majority of her career with the Veterans Administration hospital and worked in both the Little Rock and Dallas hospitals. She loved caring for America’s finest heroes.
After retiring from the Veterans Administration hospital, Shirley spent her time with family and friends, traveling, playing the casinos and enjoying fine wine.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents Willard and Ruth and her husband Loyd A. Wallace. Survivors include her 5 children Jo Ann Owen (husband Bobby) of Athens, AL; Mike Wallace (wife Julie) of Fort Worth, TX; Jeff Wallace (wife Jennifer) of Memphis TN; Gail Russ (husband Karl) of Franklin, TN; and Donna Day (husband Marshall) of Hot Springs Village and 4 grandchildren Spencer, Lauren, Natalie, and Megan and 1 great grandchild Ella. She is also survived by her sister Janice Youngren of Omaha, NE.
A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Veterans of Foreign Wars at www.vfw.org
