Major General (Ret)Thomas B. Arwood. Of Hot Springs Village. Arkansas. Passed away September. 3rd, 2026. Major General Arwood. Retired was born in Toledo, OH. October the 7th, 1934. To Thomas, T Arwood and Bernice Arwood.

Tom attended school at Fostoria, OH. Where he graduated from high school in 1953. Tom went on to achieve many great successes this Military career. Tom was married to Marget Jean Padden July 18th, 1959. Marget would be His greatest fan and supporter in life, as well as his best friend, and it would be proved in there 68 years of marriage.

Tom would go on to earn his BS in business at OH State University and his Masters of Commerce Degree from the University of Richmond in Richmond, VA. Thomas enlisted in the Army, in 1960 at Fort Lee, VA.

During his 34-year military career, General Arwood had many stateside tours as well as oversea tours in Thailand, Saudi Arabia and Germany. He served in Vietnam and in the Desert Shield and Storm campaign. He served as AMC Commander forward to execute humanitarian relief operations for Hurricane Andrew.

He attended the Army Command and General Staff College and the Air War College. He is authorized the Army Staff Badge, Army Airborne Wings and the Army Air Assault Badge.

His military awards include Army Distinguished Charter Medal, Defense Superior service medal, Legion of Merit Bronze Star Medal, Army Meritus Medal with OLC Joint service Commendation Medal with OLC Humanity service Medal, National Defense service Medal Vietnam service Medal with four stars, Overseas service medal, Vietnam distinguished unit Citation, Army Meritas Unit Citation and the German Cross in gold.

Arwood is a member of the Bowling Green State University Hall of Fame, 1995, U.S. Army Quartermaster Hall of Fame, 2012, Arkansas Military Veterans Hall of Fame, 2016.

After retiring in 1993, he joined the Lockheed Corporation as Vice President for Defense Contracting in Arlington, TX. In 1997, he and his wife Peggy moved from Texas to Hot Springs Village, AR.

Tom Arwood is a 25-year resident of Hot Springs Village. He was Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Friends of Hot Springs Village. Previously, he was a member of the POA Board of Directors, including serving as Vice President and President. His volunteer work with the Property Owners Association has also included Chairman of the Strategic Planning Committee 2000, which prepared the first long-term planning out to 2020 and twice on the declaration change committee.

Since moving to the village, he has served on the following boards: Regions Bank, Saint Joe Hospital, Good Samaritan retirement facility, The Village Community Foundation, the Veterans Memorial Foundation, Saline County Veterans, Saline County Economic Development Corporation Executive Board, Stewardship chairman and pastor, Parish Relations Committee for the Christ of the Hills Methodist Church Chairman, POA Governmental Affairs Committee, the Garland County Economic Development Corporation Board, and 50s of the future ot Springs Executive Board.

In June 2012, Major General Arwood was inducted in the US Army Quartermaster Hall of Fame.

He and his wife Peggy have one son, John Thomas Arwood and one granddaughter Selena Gillem living in Michigan.

Thomas Arwood is preceded in death by his wife, Marget Arwood, as well as his parents.

There will be a memorial service for retired Major General Thomas Arwood and his wife Marget Arwood, September the 10th at 10 AM at Christ of the Hills United Methodist Church in Hot Springs Village Arkansas.
